Time to Rest.

What a week this has been- one of violence and hatred.

Man has revealed his true heart which is one of evil and wickedness.
God’s Word reminds us that man’s heart is deceitful above all things and
desperately wicked.

There is so much turmoil around us that it is easy to let this affect us deeply,
and disturb our peace.

This Covid-19 season has in many ways forced us to rest.

To rest from our sometimes crazy schedules, from our normal routines, even from
our jobs. But true rest is a rest of our spirits, of our souls.

I love Psalm 91:1; and it says:

“He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High, will rest in the shadow of the Almighty”.

It is a Psalm about God’s Protection over us and deliverance from the enemy.
To dwell means to abide, to permanently trust and rest.
Sheltered beneath his wings and his shadow covering us,we can find true rest
for our souls.

In Jeremiah 6:16 we read:

“Stand at the crossroads and look. Ask for the ancient paths.
Ask where the good way is and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls”.

Jeremiah tells the people to look back at the ways of their ancestors who saw God
deliver them from Egypt. He doesn’t want the people to rely on ancient traditions, but on The Lord.

As we remember what God has done for us in the past, we can trust Him for today
and for the future.

We read also in Matthew 11:28-30.

“Come to me all you who are weary and burdened and I will give you rest.
Take my yoke upon you and learn from me for I am gentle and humble in heart
and you will find rest for your soul. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

He will not give us a burden heavier than we can carry.
Let’s rest in Him.
