I was reading this Psalm yesterday afternoon and it just stopped me in my tracks. There were so many important words used in these verses that I just kept reading them over and over again.
Psalm 116: 1-2 says,
“I love the Lord because He hears my voice and my prayer for mercy.
Because He bends down to listen, I will pray as long as I have breath!”
Then I thought about the times when I saw only troubles and sorrows in my life, but I kept praying continually just like in this Psalm. Verse 5 describes such a beautiful call to God in times of despair and need:
“Then I called on the name of the Lord: Please, Lord save me! How kind the Lord is! How good He is! So merciful, this God of ours!”
I want to encourage you today as this Psalm encouraged my heart. God bends down to hear us. Yes, you heard correctly, He bends down to hear us.
Just like we bend down to listen to children at their level, to give them a place where they feel comfortable to speak freely without fear, so God does for us.
He comes to listen to us exactly where we are. We don’t need to be fearful to how to approach Him; we just have to come to Him, so that He can bend down and incline His ear to us. He is always there for us, in good times and in tough times. He just waits to hear our voice calling out His name and then He comes and bends down to hear our pleas.
It’s in that place, as He is bent down beside us, where we come with a “childlike faith” that He comes and bestows kindness, goodness, and mercy over us! How awesome is this!!!!
