This is what the Lord says: “Cursed is the one who trusts in man, who draws strength from mere flesh and whose heart turns away from the Lord. That person will be like a bush in the wastelands; they will not see prosperity when it comes. They will dwell in the parched places of the desert, in a salt land where no one lives.
“But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him. They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.”
The above verses contrast those who put their trust in human beings and those who put their trust in God.
But one sentence in particular caught my attention. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.
The usual definition of the word drought that we think of is the lack of rain resulting in a shortage of water. Another definition of drought is a prolonged absence of a specified thing. Do you feel like you are experiencing an absence of specific things in your life right now? The Bible says in Philippians 4:19 “and my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.” Do you feel like you are in a time of drought? Jesus said in John 4:14 “but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”
don’t know how long this Pandemic will last. Historically they are not a one-time event. They come in waves three to twelve months apart. The usual total duration is twelve to eighteen months.
How thought-provoking that the verse mentions a year of drought. But even more remarkable is the fact that even in a time of drought, we can be blessed and fruitful. We see God’s faithfulness to those who put their trust in Him in other scriptures as well.
For the Lord is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations.
How abundant are the good things that you have stored up for those who fear you, that you bestow in the sight of all, on those who take refuge in you.
Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.
Whoever gives heed to instruction prospers, and blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord.
Let’s continue to put our trust in God by meditating on his word and allowing it to change our attitudes and actions in a way that will bring honour to Him. Don’t let trouble, persecution, and the worries of this world stop us from being fruitful. Let us remember that God promises to bless those who put their trust in Him. Let us be like that tree planted by the water whose roots go deep.
Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, but whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night. That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither—whatever they do prospers.
