I was reading the book of Mark this week and this verse stood out to me. It says in Mark 4:38 “ Jesus, don’t you care that we are going to die?”
How many people are feeling this way today?
How many are going around asking God where He is in times like these?
How many are making posts on social media about “if God is really God, how come He does not save and heal the world”?
How many people are feeling financial stress and trying to figure out where their next cheque is coming from, and questioning God if He does not care about their situations?
How many people are filled with anxiety in having to stay home and not have any contact with others, and now are considering harming themselves or taking their lives, thinking that no one cares for them?
God does care for us! God is always there to help us through these times where things are feeling hopeless.
Jesus gets up in this storm and He tells the storm (that which was causing chaos and despair) to stop!
But Jesus does not stop there; He asks His disciples where their faith was.
The disciples had forgotten that God was for them. That God had the power over all things and situations.
How many of us have forgotten that God can do anything? That God can change the way we feel, the way we react to stressful situations, the financial situations we find ourselves in, etc.
Jesus tell us that He will never leave us. Here are some bible verses that will encourage your heart as they have mine over the years. These verses will help you remember that God has not forgotten you, that He is still at work in the midst of the storms of life, and that He loves you and will uphold you in every situation that you are facing (physically, socially, financially, emotionally).
Joshua 1:9 “This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.”
Deuteronomy 31:6 “So be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid and do not panic before them. For the LORD your God will personally go ahead of you. He will neither fail you nor abandon you.”
Isaiah 41:10 “Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.”
Zephaniah 3:17 “For the LORD your God is living among you. He is a mighty saviour. He will take delight in you with gladness. With his love, he will calm all your fears. He will rejoice over you with joyful songs.”
Matthew 28:20 “Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
Romans 8:35-39 “Can anything ever separate us from Christ’s love? Does it mean he no longer loves us if we have trouble or calamity, or are persecuted, or hungry, or destitute, or in danger, or threatened with death? (As the Scriptures say, “For your sake we are killed every day; we are being slaughtered like sheep).” No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us. And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
There is something very important in remembering, especially when it comes to the word of God. The more we remember the word of God and the promises of God, the less likely are we to forget that He is for us and with us at all times. His word and promises stand the test of time and they are words that bring comfort, peace, joy, and life.
The next time you think that God doesn’t care if you are “drowning, or dying” in your present trials, please take the time to remember God’s words to us “Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you. For I am the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Saviour…” Isaiah 43:1-3
